Some years back it was only possible to communicate with people at a distant place using telephones connected through a complex network of telephone lines. But today mobile phones, wifi network etc helps us talk to people, send photos, files etc only through air, without the use of any wires etc.
This became possible with the discovery of electromagnetic waves.
